FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What stipulations must production fulfill to use the »idChip«?
The first significant stipulation is a suitable scanner, to be able to scan the DataMatrix code. You will need corresponding software to manage the tool data. ZOLLER offers both of these, with »zidCode 4.0« and the TMS Tool Management Solutions software.
Is it possible to identify tools subsequently with the »idChip« as well?
Yes, this is possible at any time. Simply contact our Sales department if you would like to equip your tools with the ZOLLER »idChip«.
What are the advantages of the »idChip«, compared to coding with adhesive labels?
We recommend »idLabel« primarily for turning tools and fixtures, because they do not rotate during use. »idChip« is a better choice for rotating tools. It is fastened in the holder and is protected there, while remaining easily detectable. You can simply adhere the »idChip« in place using the 2-component glue. You can purchase this from us or from other providers.
ZOLLER is known as a manufacturer of presetting and measuring machines. Does ZOLLER produce the Tooling Solutions tool holders itself as well?
ZOLLER cooperates closely with Schüssler as a partner on its tool-holding fixtures. Schüssler produces the tool holders, ZOLLER delivers the »idChip« and makes it simple, quick, and convenient to purchase tool holders via the new ZOLLER web shop.
What is the service life of the shrink fit holder? How often can tools be shrunk and unshrunk in the holder?
If the heating and cooling of ZOLLER Tooling Solutions shrink fit chucks are processed correctly, they can be used for more than 10,000 shrinking cycles without loss of accuracy for tool holders with a bore diameter of more than 6 mm. For diameters of 5 mm and below, the number of cycles is 5,000.
Correct processing through heating and cooling is supported by ZOLLER »actbyLight« technology to ensure correct and safe processing of the shrink cycles.
Why do we need to consider balanced tool holders?
Balanced tool holders increase productivity. The positive results of using balanced tool holders are visible in many areas of the machining process. Longer tool and spindle life and higher metal removal rates are just some of the factors that can reduce production costs immensely.
Up to what length are ZOLLER Tooling Solutions available?
The ZOLLER Tooling Solutions have a GPL holder length of 200 mm (overhang length A).
Are balanced ER Collet chucks available?
With the ZOLLER Tooling Solutions, balancable collet chucks ER are also available. For the balancing process, the lock nut is mounted and a master pin is used to simulate the cutting tool.
What is the shrink fit holder material made of?
ZOLLER uses shrink holders made of a heat-resistant tool steel for the production of the ZOLLER Tooling Solutions.
What are the differences between shrink fit, collect chuck and hydraulics tool clamping system?
No other clamping system can match the hold, concentricity and performance of a shrink fit interface. Because shrink holders do not require collets, collet nuts or set screws, nose diameters can be very slim, allowing machining of hard-to-reach areas.
What shank tolerance is required so that the cutting tools can be used in shrink fit fixtures?
The tolerance for the cutting tool shank should be h5 or h6.
Where can ZOLLER Tooling Solutions tool holders be purchased?
Orders can be placed online via the ZOLLER MYZOLLER portal (myzoller.com). The online orders can currently be placed in Germany and the USA. In other countries, it is possible to select the tool holder via the MYZOLLER portal and send the generated article list to the respective regional ZOLLER sales staff and request the quotation.
Are the tool holders balanced after adding ZOLLER »idChip« or other RFID chips?
If the tool holders are ordered with ZOLLER »idChip« or other RFID chips, the tools holders will be balanced with the chips.
What are the delivery times for all types of ZOLLER Tooling Solutions?
It is possible to check stock availability for ZOLLER Tooling Solutions online at any time via the webshop.
Is it possible to obtain the digital formats dxf, png and stp for ZOLLER Tooling Solutions before I place an order for the corresponding tool holders?
